#Election2024: Mahama wins with historic 56.55% — EC declares

Former President John Dramani Mahama has been declared winner of the 2024 presidential election.

He polled 6,328,397 of the total valid votes cast representing 56.55%.

The flagbearer of the NDC Mahama beats his close contender, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by 1,671,093 votes.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia trailed behind with 4,657,304 representing 41.61%.

The Chairperson Jean Mensa declared flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the President-elect in a televised address today Monday, December 9.

Independent Candidate Nana Kwame Bediako of the New Force placed third by polling 84,478 representing 0.5%.

Independent Alan Kyerematen of the Movement for Change came fourth by polling 31,202 representing 0.28%.

The final results was declared from results obtained from 267 constituencies with nine outstanding.

The total valid votes cast is 11,191,422. The total votes cast is 11,435,531. The total number of rejected votes is 239,109. The total registered voters is 18,774,159.

Voter turnout for the 2024 general elections is 60.9%.

Nine outstanding constituencies
The EC Chair Jean Mensa explained this was because political party supporters had besieged some collation centres "making it impossible to complete the collation process."

They are Dome-Kwabenya, Suhum, Akwatia, Ablekuma North, Awutu Senya East, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Techiman South, Ahafo Ano North and Damongo.

She indicated that the presidential results will be updated as and when the results are received.
