Rotimi Onadipe: I Am Surprised That Many People Still Fall Victim To Common Scams

Rotimi Onadipe is a renowned advocate of cyber security. He is the founder of internet safety magazine, which is dedicated to promoting online safety education globally in order to prevent cyber crimes, online scams and other risks associated with the use of internet.

In a significant display of his commitment to increasing people's awareness about online safety and fraud prevention, Onadipe has called for continuous awareness of the public about common scams and how to prevent them.

Onadipe disclosed this at the 134th edition of his public lecture on cyber security and fraud prevention, which took place at the headquarters of his organisation in Ibadan, Oyo State.

"I always feel sad when I hear that many people are still falling victim to scams that can easily be avoided by using common sense," Onadipe lamented.

He continued, "I have discovered that many people are not adopting online safety tips that can prevent them from falling victim. Our people need more education about common scams and how to avoid them."

"We must be informed that on a daily basis, scammers are sending unsolicited messages, requesting money and gifts from unsuspecting individuals to facilitate donations from government, charitable organisations, religious organisations, influential people, among others."

"Beware of unsolicited calls, SMS, emails, requesting for your money, ATM pin, ATM card number, online banking password, code sent from WhatsApp, email password or other banking details."

"When any of these private and sensitive information is exposed to criminals, they will take advantage of it immediately for criminal and fraudulent purposes," Onadipe added.

In his final remarks, the cyber security advocate assured members of the public of his commitment to providing educational resources to them regularly so as to increase their awareness about online safety and fraud prevention.
