Elections #Election2024: Dome-Kwabenya NDC Candidate challenges Mike Oquaye amid disputed results
MON, 09 DEC 2024

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency, Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, has issued a bold challenge to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, Mike Oquaye, amidst ongoing disputes over the parliamentary election results.

Speaking to Accra-based TV3 during the collation process, Ms Akurugu dared her opponent to come to the collation centre if he believes he has won the seat.

“I dare Mike Oquaye to come here right now,” she stated emphatically.

Her remarks come in the wake of the NPP’s claims that Mr Oquaye has secured victory in the highly contested Dome-Kwabenya parliamentary race, despite the collation of results still being underway.

Ms Akurugu dismissed the NPP’s claims, alleging that Mr Oquaye’s campaign rests on his father’s influence.

“He is only riding on the popularity of his father,” she said, adding, “As we speak, collation is still ongoing, so who declared him winner?”

Addressing accusations that the NDC had deployed landguards to the collation centre to intimidate NPP supporters and agents, Ms Akurugu categorically denied the allegations.

“They are party supporters, not landguards,” she clarified.

The Dome-Kwabenya parliamentary race remains one of the most closely watched contests in the aftermath of the December 7 elections, with tensions running high as both parties await the final declaration of results.
