Electoral Commission (EC) has appealed to political stakeholders and the general public to exercise patience as the verification of the 2024 presidential and parliamentary election results progresses.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, 8 December, the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa, assured Ghanaians that the official results would be announced once the thorough verification process has been completed.
“We would like to ask that citizens exercise patience; it’s just been 23 hours since the close of polls. The process is elaborate, and it involves the political parties’ agents and observers at every step of the way. We will announce the results if they are ready before 72 hours,” she stated.
This comes after the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, called on the EC to expedite the announcement of the results. His appeal followed the concession of defeat by the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama.
Jean Mensa explained that while results from the Ahafo Region had been received, the commission is still processing data from other regions. She reiterated the EC’s commitment to transparency and accuracy in ensuring credible results.
“We are working within a 72-hour timeframe to complete the necessary verification process. This approach guarantees that the results we announce will be accurate and reflect the will of the people,” she added.
The EC Chairperson urged Ghanaians to remain calm and allow the commission to fulfil its constitutional duty, assuring them of a meticulous and transparent process.
The nation waits eagerly as the Electoral Commission continues its work to announce the official results of the December 7 elections.
