Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has successfully retained his seat following a fiercely contested election in the 2024 polls.
Boamah, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), secured 20,229 votes to hold onto the constituency. His main contender, Abdulai Abu Baba Abubakar Sadiq of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), mounted a strong challenge but fell short of victory with 18, 783.
Voter Turnout and Statistics
The voter turnout for the constituency stood at 61.8%, with 40,443 ballots cast out of 65,431 registered voters. A total of 164 ballots were rejected during the counting process.
Presidential Results in Okaikwei Central In the presidential race within the constituency, NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia received 16,785 votes, while NDC candidate John Dramani Mahama garnered 21,890 votes, reflecting Mahama's dominance in the area.
Collation Delays Amid Chaos
Tensions flared during the collation process on December 7 at the Ansurudeen Islamic School polling station, where confusion broke out over space constraints.
The Presiding Officer requested a reduction in the number of polling agents, which led to disagreements. The dispute escalated, resulting in the destruction of voting booths and subsequent delays in the collation process.
Despite the challenges, the collation was eventually completed, and Boamah emerged victorious, solidifying his position as the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central.
