Tension flared at the University of Ghana campus on election day as supporters of incumbent MP Lydia Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate John Dumelo clashed over allegations of vote-buying.
The incident unfolded at the University of Ghana SRC Union building, where supporters of John Dumelo claimed that some of Ms. Alhassan's backers were distributing money to voters.
In an attempt to expose the alleged malpractice, one NDC supporter began recording the activity on video.
However, NPP supporters intervened and insisted that the footage be deleted, leading to a heated verbal exchange between the two groups.
The situation escalated further when military officers arrived in two pick-up vehicles, sparking anger among the NDC supporters who questioned the necessity of the deployment.
After a tense standoff, calm was eventually restored following a meeting between the involved parties, which helped resolve the matter.
