NPP #Election2024: NPP demands prosecution of Joseph Dery for alleged ballot fraud in Kintampo South
SAT, 07 DEC 2024

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly condemned an incident of electoral misconduct involving an Electoral Commission (EC) officer in Kintampo South.

The officer, identified as Joseph Dery, was arrested for allegedly issuing ballot papers that omitted the name of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party's presidential candidate, during the voting process.

The incident has provoked widespread outrage within the NPP and among its supporters, who believe the act was a deliberate attempt to undermine the integrity of the electoral process.

According to a police report, Mr. Dery was apprehended after vigilant polling station officials and party agents raised concerns about the anomalies in the ballot papers being issued at his station.

Following the alert, law enforcement swiftly intervened and arrested Mr. Dery in connection with the alleged electoral malpractice.

At a press conference after the incident, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, spokesperson for the Bawumia Campaign, expressed the party’s dismay and reiterated its commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s democracy.

“The NPP is calling for Joseph Dery’s immediate prosecution because what he did was a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise the Ghanaian people and deny them their fundamental right to vote,” Mr. Aboagye said.

He added, “Let every individual engaged by the NDC to perpetuate such acts know that we will find you out because we have a robust system in place at every polling station to detect you, no matter what machinations are in play.”
