The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has called on Ghanaians to maintain calm and exercise their voting rights as the nation in the ongoing polls today, December 7, 2024.

The appeal follows the release of CODEO’s mid-day situational report on the general elections.

Speaking at a media briefing, Rev. Dr. Fred Degbe, co-chair of CODEO’s advisory board, emphasized the importance of peaceful participation in the democratic process.

“CODEO urges the general public to remain calm and exercise their right to vote if they have not already done so,” he stated, adding that every effort is being made to ensure that registered voters can cast their ballots freely.

Rev. Dr. Degbe acknowledged that while some challenges, including delays in the opening of polling stations and logistical issues, were observed, most of these were swiftly resolved by the Electoral Commission (EC).

“CODEO acknowledges the EC’s swift resolution of most of these challenges, which has enabled voting to take place in the normal manner,” Rev. Dr. Degbe remarked.

As voting progresses, CODEO continues to monitor incidents and provide updates, urging citizens to cooperate with electoral officials and security personnel to ensure a peaceful and successful election.

CODEO has deployed 4,000 trained, accredited, and non-partisan observers to oversee the elections, with 1,500 of them assigned to a representative sample of polling stations nationwide for Parallel Vote Tabulation (PVT).
