The Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, has called for a decisive shift in Ghana's leadership to address what he describes as the "unexplained suffering" faced by citizens.
In an interview with GHOne, the veteran politician emphasised the need for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to secure victory in the upcoming presidential election, positioning former President John Dramani Mahama as key to this transformation.
“It’s my prayer that John Mahama wins to change course, and to reset our country for the good of our democracy, for the health of our economy and for the good of good governance,” Haruna Iddrisu stated, expressing his faith in Mahama's ability to steer the country toward a more prosperous future.
Haruna Iddrisu was unequivocal in his criticism of the current administration, describing its performance as “abysmal and poor.”
He highlighted the widespread dissatisfaction among Ghanaians, urging them to rally behind the NDC to usher in the much-needed change.
“I trust that the sovereign will of the Ghanaian people, we will just respect that, and we Ghanaians opting for change can go and vote for change. The performance of this government in every enterprise is abysmal, poor and very disappointing. We should see change, and Ghanaians must see a change to see an end to the unexplained suffering," the former Minority Leader said.
The MP’s remarks underscore a growing sentiment among opposition figures that the upcoming election represents a critical moment for Ghana.
Ghana is voting today to elect new Members of Parliament and a President to government the country for the next four years.
