Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has urged all officials tasked with managing the 2024 general elections to uphold truth, transparency, and integrity in their duties.
She made the call during a press conference held on Friday, December 6, as part of preparations for the crucial polls.
Mrs. Mensa commended the hard work and dedication of EC staff and temporary election officials nationwide, acknowledging their vital role in ensuring credible electoral outcomes.
“You have worked hard to ensure the successful, peaceful, and credible elections and electoral outcomes that we are about to witness. You have made it; you have fought a good fight,” she said.
The EC chairperson emphasized the Commission’s mandate to conduct transparent and professional elections that reflect the true will of Ghanaians, urging officials to carry out their roles with integrity. “Let truth guide you,” she charged.
Mrs. Mensa reminded election officials of their significant responsibility to uphold the Commission’s core values of transparency, fairness, and integrity.
She specifically called on Presiding Officers and Polling Officials to ensure accurate vote counting and proper documentation, which she noted would determine the credibility of the election results.
“Your work at the polling stations, which culminates in the pink sheets, is what determines the outcome of the election. We urge you to do it with integrity and truth, and let God’s light guide you,” she stressed.
She reiterated the Commission’s impartial role, stating, “Our collective roles – yours and ours – is not to make anybody a president or a member of parliament. Ours is to conduct orderly, credible, fair, and highly professional elections.”
The EC chairperson also assured Ghanaians of the Commission’s resolve to deliver world-class elections, while charging officials to ensure that every valid vote counts and that rejected ballots are minimized.
“We trust in you to deliver free, fair, credible, and transparent elections that will reflect the will of the people as expressed at the polls,” she expressed.
