Tensions flared in the Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfrom Constituency as supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from Awutu Senya East (Kasoa) stormed the White Gate Lounge, a hotel in Ga South, over allegations of ballot paper thumbprinting.
The NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Awutu Senya East, Philys Naa Koryoo, led the charge, claiming that members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and military personnel had been stationed at the hotel to illegally thumbprint ballot papers. Accompanied by police officers, the NDC team searched the hotel rooms, sparking heightened tensions when military personnel refused entry to parts of the premises.
Naa Koryoo accused the NPP and specifically Hawa Koomson, her political rival in Kasoa, of orchestrating the alleged ballot-stuffing operation.
However, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ga South, Joseph Nyarni Stevens, has strongly denied the allegations. He dismissed the claims as baseless fabrications aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the NPP in the area.
“This is a calculated attempt by unscrupulous individuals and media outlets to malign the hard-earned reputation of the NPP in Ga South,” Nyarni Stevens stated, describing the reports as false and unprofessional.
The MCE urged the public to disregard the rumors and called on journalists to adhere to professional standards by ensuring their reports are accurate and objective.
As the December 7 elections approach, the incident underscores rising tensions and the need for all stakeholders to prioritize peace and integrity during the electoral process.
