Elections Election 2024: ‘The SDA church accepting to vote is a step in the right direction’ —Nana Akomea

Nana Akomea, a senior member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Deputy Chairman of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's campaign team, has commended the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church for its decision to participate in the upcoming December 7 elections.

The SDA Church, which observes Saturdays as its Sabbath, had earlier petitioned the Electoral Commission (EC) to consider moving election dates from Saturdays, a day considered sacred for worship by members.

While the EC acknowledged its concerns, it announced that any changes to the electoral calendar would only take effect from 2028.

Initially, the SDA Church hinted at abstaining from this year’s elections. However, the church has since reversed its decision, encouraging members to fulfill their civic duty by participating in the polls.

Reacting to this development on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show, Nana Akomea lauded the church’s move as a win for democracy.

“I am happy they have decided to exercise their franchise. Voting is a critical part of nation-building, and their decision ensures their voice is heard in shaping the future of Ghana,” he stated.
