Sam Nartey George, the lead advocate for the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, also known as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, accusing them of supporting policies that undermine Ghanaian cultural and family values.
He argued that voting for the NPP in the December 7 elections would signal support for homosexuality and threaten the nation's traditional values.
Speaking at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) final rally at Zurak Park in Madina on Thursday, December 5, the Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament (MP) called on Ghanaians to vote in overwhelming support of John Dramani Mahama and the NDC, which he described as the true protectors of Ghana's cultural heritage and moral integrity.
Sam George argued that a vote for the NPP would open the door for policies that could erode the country's cherished traditions. He accused the ruling party of being too lenient on LGBTQ+ issues and warned that their policies if left unchecked, could damage Ghana's moral fabric.
In contrast, he emphasized the NDC's firm stance in support of Ghanaian values, asserting that a Mahama-led government would swiftly enact the anti-LGBTQ+ bill into law. He expressed confidence that this action would help protect the country from what he referred to as “external influences” seeking to impose foreign values on Ghana.
“On Saturday, as we go to the polls, we vote for one reason, which is the reset of Ghana. A vote for John Dramani Mahama is a vote to protect our culture and our family values. A vote for Bawumia and NAPO is a vote for homosexuality. A vote for comprehensive sexuality education, and Ghanaians must say no.
“We need Mahama to come and sign the bill into law. If you love the children of Ghana, if you love our family values, and you love your faith, vote against the NPP,” he stated.
