Bawumia Can’t Bear The Weight, If Promises Are Like Stones: Your Guide To Choosing A Sensible Leader

Feature Article Bawumia Can’t Bear The Weight, If Promises Are Like Stones: Your Guide To Choosing A Sensible Leader
THU, 05 DEC 2024

Politicians' broken promises are the fundamental issue in all emerging democracies. They begin to warn that because the current leadership is incompetent and corrupt, bad things are on the horizon. This was the same false strategy and accusation used by Akufo Addo and Bawumia to influence Ghanaians to cast large numbers of votes in their favor. However, as they say, "time will tell." Ghanaians have seen the true incompetence and corruptible nature of Akufo Addo and Bawumia after eight years in power.

Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president, will never be able to bear the weight of the pledges if they are like stones when placed in a basket. The man has failed nearly all of his promises, including the easiest and most straightforward of them all, the toilet project. From the time he was in the opposition until he formally took office in 2017, Bawumia has engaged in a marathon of failed pledges, just as Akufo Addo also went on a rampage of sod-cutting without constructing any project.

Politicians understand the problems that the vulnerable face, just like how doctors know the ailments of their patients. Therefore, many of them take it as an advantage to come out with mouthwatering and deceptive promises to solicit votes; however, as soon as the people vote for them, they immediately break their pledges and forget about the people, begin embezzling money for their personal gain and the benefit of their families, and those who fight against corruption become their enemies.

No one hates Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president, but when someone lacks leadership skills and, more importantly, breaks all of his promises both before and after taking office, no rational person should waste time on them. Bawumia and his wife, Samira, used social media to call the former Ghanaian leader, John Mahama, corrupt and incompetent while he was in opposition, so if they have failed, why should any intelligent Ghanaian entertain such a couple?

The vice president's unmet pledges have been the subject of my previous writings, but what I want to remind Ghanaians of is that since Bawumia has been a liar as vice president, he will be the same as president. Bawumia is letting them understand that he has no plans to develop Ghana. He said, “And for the people of Cape Coast, I have good news for you: we are building a new harbor and new airport in Cape Coast," he stated firmly in a video that was captured on camera.

However, the president, Akufo Addo, another lazy and incompetent leader, strongly denied that he made such a pledge. According to him in an interview, "The commitment was never to a harbor; it was to a landing site," even though Ghanaians were reassured by Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah that Akufo-Addo's pledge to construct an airport in Cape Coast is on track. Despite a national debt of GHC 763 billion, the government that failed Ghanaians is that of Akufo Addo-Bawumia.

Why would a rational Ghanaian choose a vice president who bears responsibility for the nation's economic collapse? Ghana possesses oil, manganese, gold, bauxite, cocoa, and other resources, but because its citizens are easily duped, their ignorance and tribalism are costing them dearly. Ghana has witnessed the Akufo Addo-Bawumia administration's thick and thin, ineptitude, corruption, and broken promises, and it’s time for the moment to come for Ghanaians to defend their ballots and remove the NPP.

Ghanaians will cast their ballots on Saturday, December 7, 2024, to elect a wise leader to govern the country. The following policies should be taken into account by voters to prevent squandering their valuable votes and to ensure the country's progress and future.

  1. Parties can directly influence individuals by making promises about welfare and improved living conditions, among other things. It is a waste of time to support a party that hasn't fulfilled its promises; thus, voters should think about which party has fulfilled its promises the best before choosing that party.
  1. To create a healthy environment that is suitable for interacting with young people and caring for the elderly, find out which government has shown a genuine dedication to protecting the environment, rivers, and ecosystem.
  1. Back in 2016, the opposition party told Ghanaians that the president should step down because of his incompetence and corruption, as evidenced by the Cedi's weakening exchange rate of 3.74 against the US dollar. As a result, a new administration takes office and has remained in that role ever since. To decide which party to support, any astute Ghanaian must now evaluate whether the present administration has outperformed the one that came before it.
  1. Budgets are submitted to the Parliament for approval, and the funds are spent on project implementation. Is it time for Ghanaians to investigate which administration unlawfully worked with the Bank of Ghana's governor to print money three times without the legislature's consent? Such a government doesn't care about you, so vote them out. The GHC 763 billion state debt is the result of the NPP. How did the debt develop? Don't vote for them since they are corrupt.
  1. Politicians implicated in corruption scandals are either fired from office or charged with a crime and, if convicted, imprisoned in many developing nations, let alone developed ones like China, Japan, and the United States of America. It should be your duty as a Ghanaian to learn how the government handles corruption charges if you care about the nation's future and the next generation. Don't waste your time voting for a corrupt political party if they are found not guilty of any wrongdoings, as their actions will cause the nation's economy to collapse.
  1. You should know that if someone attempts to pay you off when it comes time to vote, they are a failure, and you shouldn't trust their party, which is why they are doing it. You can always choose to accept or refuse the money. You should not, however, vote for him because not only will the funds run out, but the future of your country will also be at risk.

A desperate government that resorts to violence and intimidation to create chaos and instill fear to lower voter turnout is considered to have failed. Voters must not tolerate intimidation because this is one of the strategies used to manipulate elections. They should be vigilant and focused to combat any potential electoral frauds carried out by the NPP, the failed party.
