The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, warmly welcomed former President John Dramani Mahama to the Manhyia Palace on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, praising his visit as a reaffirmation of the strong ties between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Asante Kingdom.
Addressing Mahama and his entourage, Otumfuo dispelled notions of any discord between the NDC and the palace.
"Some of my people have been thinking that you [the NDC] are quarreling with Manhyia because you have not been here.
“When your running mate visited me, I asked her whether the NDC did not want to come and greet me because she was selected before NAPO but was not introduced to me first. Today, you have said for everyone to hear that Manhyia is your home," the Asantehene remarked in Twi.
The king emphasized the impartiality of the palace, noting its role in fostering peaceful political processes and helping to shape Ghana’s leadership.
He urged Mahama to continue engaging Ghanaians with his vision and accomplishments.
Otumfuo also prayed for a peaceful and fair election, emphasising the essence of the electorate’s will prevailing at the polling stations.
He offered his blessings to Mahama, wishing him good luck.
Accompanied by prominent NDC figures from the Ashanti Region, including former Attorney General Betty Mould-Iddrisu, ex-Commissioner of Police Kofi Boakye, and Regional Chairman Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi, Mahama expressed gratitude for the Asantehene’s support.
He highlighted his visit as part of a six-day campaign tour in the Ashanti Region, seeking prayers and blessings from Otumfuo ahead of the December 7, 2024, presidential elections.
