Tamale Technical University (TaTU) has officially inducted Prof. Bashiru Ibn Imoro Saeed as its second Vice Chancellor (VC), marking a significant milestone in the institution’s leadership transition.
The event represents a new era for TaTU as it builds on past achievements and charts a course for further growth under Prof. Bashiru’s leadership.
Prof. Bashiru succeeds Prof. Abass Braimah, the university’s inaugural Vice Chancellor, who served from September 2020 to July 2024. During his tenure, Prof. Braimah oversaw substantial progress in academic programs and infrastructure development. The official handover took place in July 2024, and the recent ceremony formalized Prof. Bashiru’s assumption of office.
The induction ceremony was graced by a broad range of dignitaries, including the new VC’s family, representatives from regulatory bodies, registrars, traditional authorities, heads of secondary institutions, members of convocation, and TaTU staff. Dr. Al-Hassan Emil Abdulai, Chair of the University Council, led the proceedings and congratulated Prof. Bashiru on his appointment. He encouraged the new VC to prioritize enhancing academic programs, upgrading infrastructure, and maintaining high educational standards to meet the evolving needs of the university's growing student population.
In his acceptance speech, Prof. Bashiru expressed profound gratitude to the University Council, staff, and the entire TaTU community for entrusting him with this critical leadership role. He also took a moment to commend his predecessor, Prof. Abass Braimah, for laying a solid foundation for the institution. Prof. Bashiru pledged to work diligently, with the support of the university community, to uphold and strengthen TaTU’s values and legacy.
Prof. Bashiru outlined his vision to transform Tamale Technical University into a leading institution in technical education at both national and international levels. He highlighted plans to modernize the university’s infrastructure, including lecture halls, laboratories, and learning spaces, to promote creativity, collaboration, and hands-on learning. He also shared his ambition to turn TaTU into a “smart campus,” where technology will be fully integrated into academic and administrative processes to enhance efficiency.
Sustainability emerged as a key focus in his address. He revealed plans to prioritize campus greening and eco-friendly initiatives, creating a sustainable environment for the university community. Additionally, Prof. Bashiru emphasized the importance of improving student hostels to provide a safe and comfortable living environment. He assured the audience of management’s commitment to investing in recreational facilities to support the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of students.
Prof. Bashiru reaffirmed that his administration would center its decisions around the needs of students, faculty, staff, and the wider community. He concluded his address with a call for collective effort, urging all stakeholders to work together to ensure that Tamale Technical University remains a beacon of excellence in technical education, training, and applied research for generations to come.
The ceremony concluded on a note of optimism as the university looks forward to a transformative period under Prof. Bashiru’s stewardship.
