Walewale: Gunmen ambush cattle traders on Bolgatanga-Tamale highway, one person injured

A group of cattle traders traveling along the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway near Walewale were ambushed by gunmen, resulting in one person being injured and 27 cattle stolen.

The injured victim, Aziz Agbang, sustained a gunshot wound to the back and is receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH).

The traders were returning to Zebilla in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region after purchasing livestock from the Buipe Market in the Savannah Region when the attack occurred.

While the motive for the ambush remains unclear, residents suspect it may be connected to the ongoing Bawku conflict, which has fueled armed violence along the North East-Upper East Regional corridor.

The Walewale area, particularly sections of the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway, has become a notorious hotspot for such attacks, exacerbated by the prolonged unrest in Bawku.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident as efforts are intensified to enhance security in the region.

Very poor reportage. When did this occur, was it only the victim that was attacked, how many were the assailants and many more
