The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as part of his six-day campaign tour in the Ashanti Region ahead of the December 7 polls.

Accompanied by some Ashanti Regional executives, Mahama visited the Asantehene at his residence in the Manhyia Palace on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.

Explaining the purpose of his visit, Mahama stated that it was to inform the Asantehene about his campaign activities in the region and seek the King’s blessings ahead of the general elections.

“I always feel at home every time I visit Manhyia, as Asantehene has been like a father to me,” he said.

Mahama assured the Asantehene and the people of Ashanti Region that if elected, he would prioritize completing all unfinished projects in the region, including those initiated by the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

“I’m making a promise today that when we come, we will continue all abandoned projects,” he affirmed.

He further emphasized his commitment, saying: “Even projects that this current NPP government does not finish, we will continue and finish because they are funded by taxpayers’ money. So when you abandon them, you’re wasting the money of Ghanaians.”

In response, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II urged political parties and the election security task force to ensure peace and unity during the elections. He emphasized the importance of upholding law and order, noting that leadership is ultimately determined by God.

“My prayers are with you already, and I plead that you maintain law and order for God to choose who will lead the country,” the Asantehene said.

The Asantehene described Mahama’s visit as exemplary, emphasizing that it demonstrated that Manhyia holds no bias against the NDC. He encouraged the former president to clearly communicate his vision for the country during his campaign.
