Former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu has expressed confidence that the high voter turnout during the special voting exercise in the Ashanti Region signals a major victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming December 7 polls.
Speaking to Adom News, Bonsu described the turnout as unprecedented and symbolic of an NDC breakthrough in the traditionally New Patriotic Party (NPP)-dominated region.
"I have never seen this in the Ashanti Region, achieving about 85% to 90% voter turnout across the board. This signifies victory for the NDC," he stated.
Bonsu also praised the peaceful nature of the special voting process and expressed hope for similar calm during the main election.
In the Nhyiaeso Constituency, 563 of the 688 eligible special voters participated in the exercise.
At Kwadaso, however, 10 security personnel were unable to vote due to discrepancies in the Electoral Commission’s voter album.
Meanwhile, in the Bantama Constituency, 552 out of 643 expected voters cast their ballots, with 340 men and 212 women participating.
Despite minor challenges in certain areas, Bonsu described the overall process as indicative of a "tsunami" support building for the NDC, signifying the anger in the NPP's stronghold.
