The Agona East constituency chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Central Region, Nana Kojo Frimpong has described the members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) as political comedians.
"They are day-dreamers without vision. Their only job is to deceive themselves when they are on political platforms. They think they are living in heaven, but they will remain in hell. There is no way they can capture power from the NPP come 2008 general elections, " he said.
He gave a friendly caution to his opponents in the NDC saying “do not make any attempt to come and campaign in my constituency. In spite of all the fact that all the gurus in the NDC come from my constituency, the battle line has been drawn and my elephant party will be victorious in 2008”.
The constituency chairman stated this at a fundraising ceremony organised by the Agona East constituency branch of the NPP in support of an office complex for the smooth running of the administration of the party which would comprise a conference centre, library, ICT centre, office for the MP and the chairman as well as a secretariat estimated to cost over ¢700m.
The office complex is also to enable the party meet regularly to receive reports from the polling stations.
He disclosed that plans are far advanced for seminars and workshops to be held for foot soldiers of the party to enable them carry out campaign messages of the party effectively. He cautioned supporters of the party against washing their dirty linens in public, but rather stand united and fight for the common goal of the party.
The central regional secretary of the NPP, Mr. Kwamina Duncan commended executives of the party in the Agona East constituency for organising the fundraising which he observed would enable the party stand on its feet and perform its assigned duties in the constituency instead of going round begging for alms.
The DCE for Agona, Mr. Ben Mensah pledged his support towards the construction of the office complex, observing that, it will halt the trend where people have to troop to the offices of the district administration to talk about issues associated with the NPP.
Present at the function were the Deputy Minister for Education, Science and Sports, Hon. Kwame Ampofo Twumasi, the Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur, the MP for Agona East, Hon John Kwesi Agyapong and the Gomoa West constituency chairman of NPP, Mr. Joe Donkor.
