The Ministry of Education, through the Center for National Distance Learning and Open Schooling (CENDLOS), has launched Channel MOE, a television station dedicated to promoting digital education and reducing learning poverty in Ghana.

The initiative aims to provide quality educational content to students across the country, with a particular focus on reaching those in rural areas.

Speaking at the launch, the Minister of Education, Hon. Yaw Osei Adutwum, emphasized that Channel MOE is a significant step in the government’s broader efforts to democratize learning and make education accessible to all. He highlighted the government’s commitment to transforming Ghana’s education sector through innovative solutions, including the establishment of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) centres, the construction of modern school buildings, and the renovation of existing facilities.

These initiatives aim to create a conducive learning environment that prepares students for success in the 21st century.

Hon. Adutwum stressed the importance of aligning educational infrastructure with modern standards, stating that 21st-century education cannot be delivered in outdated 19th-century classrooms. He further noted that the government has introduced new courses, such as robotics, aviation, and engineering, to equip students with relevant skills for the future.

The launch of Channel MOE is expected to accelerate progress in the education sector, building on the government’s achievements in improving student performance and increasing enrollment rates. Hon. Adutwum underscored the need for continuity in these transformative efforts, urging the public to support the government's vision for a brighter future in education.

The Executive Director of CENDLOS, Nana Gyamfi Adwabour, highlighted the critical need to address learning poverty, which he defined as the inability of children to read with comprehension by the age of 10. He expressed optimism that Channel MOE would be instrumental in tackling this challenge by leveraging technology to deliver educational content, particularly in underserved communities.

He outlined six key pillars that the TV station will focus on: policy, infrastructure, capacity, content, assessment, and curriculum. These pillars, he explained, form the foundation for achieving the government's goal of ensuring that every child has access to quality education and opportunities for personal and academic growth.

The launch of Channel MOE marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s educational journey, reinforcing the country’s commitment to innovation and inclusivity in education. By bridging the gap between urban and rural communities, Channel MOE is set to transform learning and inspire a new generation of students to achieve excellence.
