Renowned academic and former Minister of State, Professor Kwesi Yankah, has delivered a satirical take on election-related prophecies in Ghana, referencing controversial predictions made by Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah.
In a social media commentary titled “In a Comfortable Lead”, Prof. Yankah addressed what he described as the inconsistent nature of prophecies tied to the 2024 elections.
Reflecting on how some religious leaders openly predict election outcomes, Prof. Yankah alluded to a hypothetical headline: “The Supreme God Makes a U-Turn.”
This, he suggested, captures the tendency of some prophets to shift their declarations.
“God, through His prophet, could completely rule out a flagbearer today, then change His mind and declare the same flagbearer as winner the next day,” he wrote.
The former minister’s comments appear to critique Owusu Bempah, who initially out NDC flagbearer John Mahama’s victory but later predicted a win for him.
Prof. Yankah pointed out how such declarations often create confusion within congregations and questioned the credibility of prophets whose predictions fail.
Prof. Yankah further reflected on the evolving perception of the prophetic ministry in Ghana.
“More and more, the congregation is losing confidence in us men of God,” he cited from another respected cleric, Mensa Otabil.
This sentiment, he suggested, underscores growing public skepticism towards prophets who tie their reputations to election outcomes.

I so wonder that in Ghana man of God I have turn to be political prophets prophesying election results instead of healing the sick, lame, the blind and raise the dead has Jesus did. That God is coming down and manifest Himself to all nations ( Isa 64;1-2)
