Ghana’s ground handling business thriving post-COVID-19 — Aviance Ghana MD

The Managing Director of Aviance Ghana, Mark Kamis, has described the country’s ground handling sector as thriving in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He made this observation on Monday, December 2, during the press launch of Aviance Ghana’s 30th-anniversary celebrations in Accra.

Mr. Kamis highlighted its growth as evidence of the industry’s recovery.

“The ground handling business in Ghana actually is booming now after COVID, and you can see new airlines coming into Accra and also other airlines trying to join,” he said.

He cited Virgin Atlantic’s planned entry into the Ghanaian market next year as evidence of the country’s expanding aviation sector.

Reflecting on Aviance’s 30-year journey, the MD expressed optimism about the company’s resilience and its ability to navigate a competitive market.

“For any institution to last 30 years is a milestone. I’m very confident Aviance will survive any price war, any competitive market, and I will imagine Aviance as the Ghanaian ground handling company will be here for another 30 years,” he remarked.

As part of its growth strategy, Mr. Kamis noted that Aviance is investing in innovation and infrastructure to stay competitive.

“We’re moving towards more AI infrastructure, which is really important. Our employee base is over 1,000, and we continue to provide training aligned with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) standards,” he said.

He also revealed that Aviance is already operational in Kumasi and Tamale airports, handling both domestic and international flights.

“Kumasi is a strategic part of our plan, and it’s done very well for us. We’ve engaged airlines like Ethiopian Airlines and domestic carrier Africa World Airlines,” he stated.
