Dr. Arthur Kobina Kennedy, a prominent member of the News Patriotic Party (NPP) has labeled President Nana Akufo-Addo as the "worst President in the Fourth Republic."
He is claiming that Akufo-Addo’s bad leadership record could hinder the electoral prospects of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) presidential candidate for the 2024 elections.
Speaking on TV3’s The Key Points, Dr. Kennedy stated, “President Akufo-Addo is clearly the worst President in the 4th Republic. The President’s performance has become an albatross around the neck of Dr. Bawumia.”
Dr. Kennedy’s remarks come amidst growing criticism of the Akufo-Addo administration's governance record.
Critics argue that issues such as economic hardships, corruption, and unmet campaign promises have tarnished the NPP’s reputation as it seeks to retain power in the 2024 elections.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has also been vocal about the government's failings.
On November 19, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, a former Director of Elections and IT for the NDC asserted that the NPP has "failed woefully" to deliver on its promises.
Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam, Afriyie Ankrah compared the corruption levels under the NDC and NPP administrations, claiming that the worst performance in corruption under former President John Dramani Mahama's administration was still better than Akufo-Addo’s best.
“The Afrobarometer and the Auditor General’s report have revealed that the worst corruption figure under the NDC was 43%. Akufo-Addo’s best is our worst, and every time, he keeps going down. That is why Akufo-Addo is called a ‘clearing agent,’” Ankrah argued, referring to allegations that President Akufo-Addo shields officials implicated in corruption scandals.
