President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaians to rise above political loyalties and consider the nation’s long-term destiny as they vote in the 2024 general elections.

He described Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, as the ideal candidate to lead Ghana into a prosperous future.

Speaking at a ceremony at OLA Senior High School, the President emphasised the need for voters to make informed decisions based on what is best for the country’s future.

“I understand political allegiances and political loyalties, but at the same time, I think there are moments when we have to look above the parapet and think of the long-term destiny of our country, and choose the right man,” he stated.

Dr. Bawumia: A leader of vision and integrity
President Akufo-Addo lauded Dr. Bawumia’s character, intellect, and dedication to Ghana, pointing to their 16-year working relationship as proof of the Vice President’s suitability for the role.

“In these 16 years that I have worked with Dr. Bawumia, I have not had one single doubt in his quality. This is an honest man. He is a loyal man, and a man of enormous intellect, and his concern for Ghana is immense,” he said.

“I am confident, and I am saying so in all solemnity to the people of Ghana, that Mahamadu Bawumia is the man of destiny for our country,” the President stressed.

He described the December 7 election as one of the most significant in the country’s history, urging voters to prioritise the nation’s progress over partisan affiliations.

Prioritising education and human capital
Highlighting the central role of education in national development, President Akufo-Addo outlined his government’s reforms as a foundation for future growth.

He stressed that human capital development, not natural resources, is the cornerstone of any country’s prosperity.

“It is not necessarily the natural resources, the minerals, or the fertility of the soil that guarantees prosperity. It is the quality of the human capital. It is the development of the human capital that is the game changer,” he noted.

He expressed confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s ability to consolidate these gains and provide leadership to prepare Ghana for the challenges of the 21st century.

“Who would be the person who has a clear grasp of what it takes to confront the fourth industrial revolution and thereby provide us the leadership that would enable us to succeed in this 21st century? These are the matters I came here to put before you for your consideration,” he remarked.

Congratulations Dr Bawumia. You are a man of vision and hope for the country. The future of the youth is dear to you. You are honest and integrity is your bedrock. Your character is par excellence. Ghanaians should vote against Mahama because he's corrupt, dishonest, incompetent and lacks the vision to steer the country to prosperity. Rather Ghanaians should vote for the man of destiny, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
