MTN Ghana's Northern Business District celebrated 15 years of impactful Mobile Money (MoMo) services in Ghana with a dinner and awards night at the Golden Bean Hotel in Kumasi on Saturday, November 30, 2024.
The event recognized and honored outstanding partners, agents, and merchants across the Ashanti, Ahafo, Bono East, and Bono regions for their exceptional contributions to the growth of MTN MoMo.
In the Ashanti Region, Franko Prestige Ventures emerged as the top performer, earning a cash prize of GH₵20,000 and a brand-new motorbike. Osuani Boakye Ventures followed in second place with a cash prize of GH₵8,000, while Amegble Enterprise secured third place with GH₵3,000.
For the Ahafo Region, Ernestina Ultimate Venture claimed the top spot and received GH₵20,000 along with a motorbike. Baba Sule Ventures came in second with a cash prize of GH₵3,000, and Brother’s 04 Ventures placed third, receiving GH₵2,000.
In the Bono East Region, EMRYS Ventures topped the rankings, taking home GH₵20,000 and a motorbike. GOD is Good Business was second, earning GH₵3,000, while Excellence Job Gin Enterprise placed third with GH₵2,000.
The Bono Region saw Hanpok 88 Enterprise emerge as the leading performer, receiving GH₵20,000 and a motorbike. Erekies Enterprise and Peter Enterprise placed second and third, earning GH₵3,000 and GH₵2,000, respectively.
Francis Osei, CEO of Franko Prestige Ventures, was crowned the top agent for the Northern Business District. In addition to his regional prize, he received a prestigious overall award, including GH₵20,000, a brand-new motorbike, and a commemorative plaque. Speaking at the event, Osei expressed his gratitude to MTN Mobile Money Limited, recounting his journey from starting with just GH₵3,000 to achieving multiple accolades, including the Best MoMo Agent award in 2019.
Addressing the audience, Nii Adotey Mingle, General Manager for the Northern Business District, highlighted the transformative impact of MTN MoMo on Ghana's fintech industry. He acknowledged its role in creating direct and indirect employment, improving government revenue, fostering digital entrepreneurship, and enhancing financial inclusion.
Mingle reflected on the challenges MTN MoMo faced in its early years and outlined strategies for embracing emerging technologies to enhance services and meet evolving financial sector demands. He emphasized opportunities in digital payments, cross-border payments, insurance, investments, and e-commerce.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of MTN Mobile Money Limited, Mingle thanked stakeholders and customers for their trust and loyalty, stating, “Without their patronage, we would not have a business and nothing to celebrate today.”
The event underscored MTN MoMo’s commitment to innovation and its continued contribution to Ghana's economic and financial ecosystem.
