Mr. John Dramani Mahama, the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called the upcoming December 7 polls a "destiny-changing moment" for Ghanaians to decisively choose change and reset the country from hardship and disorder to a path of transformation.
Speaking to enthusiastic crowds during his tour of the Greater Accra Region, Mr. Mahama underscored the gravity of the elections, saying it is a pivotal opportunity to correct the nation's trajectory.
“This is the moment to change the destiny of our country; this is the moment to reset the country; this is the time for real change, and we must all embrace the divine order and vote massively for John Dramani Mahama and all NDC Parliamentary Candidates on Saturday, December 7, for the redemption of the country,” he stated to loud cheers.
He warned voters against endorsing the status quo, which he described as marred by economic recession, hardship, poor governance, and escalating living costs. “Or to vote to endorse the economic recession, deprivation, hardship, propagandist governance, family and friends’ government, destruction of national development, an attack against press freedom, escalating food and fuel prices, and insensitive leadership,” he cautioned.
Mr. Mahama urged Ghanaians to seize the opportunity to reset the nation through the ballot box, stressing that the Nana Addo-Bawumia administration had failed to address the challenges facing the country.
“Ghana needs a new direction, new leadership based on experience. This is not the moment for experimentation; this is the moment of truth; this is a destiny-changing moment for all Ghanaians,” he said.
He outlined the NDC's vision for national transformation, highlighting infrastructure, human resource development, and technology as critical components of Ghana’s progress. “We need water and food to enjoy the right to life. We need roads to enjoy the right to freedom of movement and the right to economic activity. We need energy to exercise the right to full employment. We need education and familiarity with information technology to access information and knowledge. We need to be developed in order to be free, and this is what the NDC stands for,” he explained.
Addressing accusations from the ruling government that external factors like COVID-19, the Russia-Ukraine war, and the Israeli-Hamas conflict are to blame for Ghana's economic woes, Mr. Mahama dismissed such claims as excuses.
“We can’t continue as a nation in a blame game forever. We must face reality and change the destiny of this nation. Let us vote for change, let us vote for holistic national transformation and development, and let us vote for our future,” he urged.
The NDC candidate also reaffirmed his party's commitment to gradually transitioning Ghana's economy towards a free-market system while safeguarding economic sovereignty and equal opportunities. He pointed to the NDC's record of utilizing external loans to prudently develop critical infrastructure in roads, harbors, telecommunications, energy, water, health, and education.
“The time has come for the next NDC government to ensure that the benefits of these developments are spread to all,” he assured, drawing wild jubilation from the crowd.
Mr. Mahama concluded with a passionate call for a massive turnout on December 7 to vote for the NDC, saying, “This is the time for Ghanaians to choose a destiny-changing government in 2025.”
