Kufuor appoints AU advisers

President J A Kufuor, has appointed Ambassador Nana Effah Appenteng and Lt. General (Rtd) Seth Obeng as his Special Advisors on African Union matters for his tenure as AU Chairman.

As the President's Special Advisors, the two will liaise with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and NEPAD in providing the necessary support in addressing issues pertaining to the Chairmanship of the AU, a statement signed by Andrew Awuni, Press Secretary to the president said yesterday.

Ambassador Nana Effah Appenteng, an accomplished Diplomat, is Ghana "s immediate past Permanent Representative to the United Nations. He also represented Ghana on the United Nations Security Council from January, 2006 to March, 2007. Other positions he has held include Minister-Counselor, Embassy of Ghana, Moscow, 1986 to 1988, Rome, 1988 to 1990 and Washington DC, 1993 to 1997.

Lt General (rtd) Seth Obeng on the other hand is the immediate past Chief of Defense Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces. He has served on several peace-keeping missions abroad, including Deputy Force Commander of the ECOWAS Ceasefire Monitoring Group, (ECOMOG) in Liberia from 1994 to 1999. He was also the Force Commander of the United Nations Observer Mission in Angola from 1998 to 1999 and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, from 1999 to 2001.
