Superintendent Victor Adusah-Poku, Western Regional Commander of The Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), on Monday, May 14, 2007 arrested Peter Mensah, owner of an articulated truck for attempting to bribe him to drop a case against the driver of the truck.

He handed Mr. Mensah over to the Sekondi District Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigations.

Superintendent Adusah-Poku said at 0800 hours on Saturday May 12 this year, he effected the arrest of the driver of the articulated truck known as Asamoah near the Takoradi Cemetery for leaving the vehicle in a dangerous location and also failing to provide an advance warning triangle.

Superintendent Adusah-Poku said Mr. Mensah came to his office about the arrest of the driver just about the time he was processing the documents for the prosecution of Asamoah.

He said Mr. Mensah then threw an envelope containing money on his table and asked him to take it and drop the case.

Superintendent Adusah-Poku said he refused to take the money and asked Mr. Mensah to go away.

He said Mr. Mensah again came to his office the next day and attempted to hand him an envelope, saying he had doubled the money.

Superintendent Adusah-Poku said he quickly asked the charge officer to arrest him and hand over to the CID.

Meanwhile the Sekondi District Magistrate's Court has fined Asmaoah 12 million cedis on each of the two counts and would serve 9 months imprisonment in hard labour in default of the fine.
