Headmaster fined 1.2 million cedis for traffic offences

Francis Gabriel Amissah, the Headmaster of St Augustine's College in Cape Coast has been fined 1.2 million cedis by a circuit court at Cape Coast for careless and inconsiderate driving and negligently causing harm.

Amissah pleaded guilty, was convicted on his own plea and would go to prison for 14 days in default.

The court also ordered that a compensation of 600,000 cedis be paid to one Madam Dorcas Dowuona who was injured in the accident.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Hope Azasoo told the court that on February 18, the convict was driving a Nissan pick-up on the Cape Coast/Takoradi highway.

On reaching a section of the road around the OLA Estates near the University of Cape Coast east gate, he ran into a Hyundai taxi with passengers on board, injuring some of the passengers including Madam Dowuona whose injury was serious.

He said taxi was damaged.
