A truck driver narrowly escaped death after a heavy load under escort fell onto his vehicle and another car in Abura Dunkwa, located in Ghana's Central Region.
The accident, initially reported by EDHUB on the social media platform X, left the driver injured but alive. Emergency responders quickly pulled him from the mangled vehicle and rushed him to the hospital for medical attention.
This near-tragedy brings to mind a similar incident in November 2020, where two lives were lost in Ghana's Western Region. In that case, a metal container fell from an articulated truck carrying cocoa beans and crushed a car on the Takoradi Vodafone highway.
Rescue teams, including the Ghana National Fire Service, extracted the victims from the wreckage in the earlier incident, but both were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The truck driver involved was subsequently arrested and prosecuted.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the Abura Dunkwa accident, but it serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with transporting heavy loads on Ghana's roads.
