The Convention People's Party (CPP) has pledged to decriminalize the possession of cannabis, commonly known as "ganja," if elected into office in the 2024 elections.
The party's vice-presidential candidate, Wayoe Ghanamannti, made this announcement during the launch of the CPP’s manifesto in Accra.
Speaking at the event, Ghanamannti, who is also a lawyer, assured Ghanaians that under a CPP government, individuals found in possession of cannabis would not face imprisonment.
"The police will not go to a ghetto to arrest people for possessing ganja. Even if arrested, they will not face 10 years of incarceration but will instead contribute to the nation by working on state farms," he explained.
Ghanamannti called on the youth to rally behind the CPP and its vision, citing the legacy of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
"The youth of this country must rise up and follow the man of action. The action is to bring back the spirit of Kwame Nkrumah through our leader, Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong-Kumakumah, to govern this country," he said.
The CPP’s presidential candidate, Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong-Kumakumah, unveiled the party’s 2024 manifesto, titled “The Women’s Manifesto,” which emphasizes economic ownership and prosperity for all.
"This is a call to action, where everyone will live in dignity, participate in prosperity, and shape their destiny in a nation free of dependency," she declared.
The party’s economic blueprint, themed “Ghana’s Industrial Rebirth – A New Economic Order of Ownership,” focuses on fostering self-reliance through industrial growth and equal opportunities.
