John Boadu, the former General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed confidence in the economic potential of digitalization, stressing that technological advancement is key to Ghana’s economic future.
Speaking on NEAT FM’s “Ghana Montie” morning show, Mr. Boadu opined that without embracing technology, Ghana risks economic stagnation, noting that digitalization is a critical component for all developing countries aiming to boost their economies.
Reflecting on global trends, Boadu highlighted how technology has shifted wealth creation, pointing to the world’s richest individuals who have amassed fortunes through tech-driven industries rather than traditional sectors.
“Back in the day, it was cocoa farmers and contractors with the money. Now, who are the richest people in the world and what do they do? They are all into tech. That is what is reviving the economy globally,” he explained.
Boadu praised Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, NPP’s presidential candidate, for his vision of a tech-forward Ghana, crediting Bawumia’s digital policies for steering the country toward a digitally inclusive economy.
He described Bawumia as the right leader to align Ghana with global economies, saying, “That is the person we have to support to be President of this country.”
Boadu is optimistic that Bawumia’s digital initiatives will soon position Ghana as a competitive force in the global economy, capable of generating substantial revenue from its digital infrastructure.
However, he emphasized the importance of a collective shift in mindset, urging Ghanaians to embrace technology as the foundation of a prosperous future.
“We have to change our mindset. We can't fail our people this time,” he concluded.
