Veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has dismissed calls for a peace pact between political parties ahead of Ghana’s December 7 general election.
To him, the peace pact has been ineffective based on past experiences.
The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) recently urged the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to join in signing a formal commitment to uphold peace and stability throughout the electoral process.
The NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia and the party's flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has openly rejected the move.
They said previous peace pacts failed to address electoral issues, particularly the eight persons who were killed in election 2020 without justice.
Mr. Pratt, speaking on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show, questioned the value of such a pact.
He also pointed to the tragic events during the 2020 election, where eight people were shot to death by security officers, despite a peace pact.
Pratt criticized the proposed agreement, suggesting it holds no real significance if the commitments made in previous years failed to prevent electoral violence.
“What is the essence of it?” he asked, describing the agreement as “of no usefulness” under the current circumstances.
