Election 2024: Don’t let ethnic lines dictate your votes - Most Rev Prof Emmanuel Asante to voters

Former Chairman of the National Peace Council, Most Rev Prof Emmanuel Asante has asked Ghanaians not to let their ethnicity dictate their votes as the country prepares for the 2024 elections.

He stated that as the election seasons heat up, politicians often resort to tribal bigotry to cause ethnic divisions to sway voters.

To avert the situation, he said voting should be about choosing the best candidates for the job, regardless of their ethnicity.

Most Rev Prof Emmanuel Asante, who is also a former Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, said this in an interview on Otec FM’s morning show ‘Nyansapo’, hosted by Captain Koda, on Thursday.

The interview was part of the Otec FM and Media Foundation for West Africa (NFWA) media sensitizing program that sought to counter hate speech, mis/disinformation, and polarising narratives in the 2024 elections in Ghana.

“Politicians may try to create a sense of cognitive dissonance, making you feel uneasy about voting for someone outside your ethnic group, but don't fall for it.

“To avoid falling prey to politicians' tactics, stay informed about the issues and critically evaluate each candidate's policies,” he added.

Most Rev Prof Emmanuel Asante further noted that making informed decisions will ensure that their votes count and help build a more inclusive and representative democracy.
