The Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Council has asked Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to apologise and retract alleged false statements against Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi ll, Paramount Chief of the Traditional Area.
According to the Council, Mr Nketiah had accused Ogyeahoho Gyebi II of compromising his neutral position by allegedly supporting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during a campaign in Odumase in the Asante Akim Central Constituency of the Ashanti Region.
It said the NDC National Chairman had further alleged that the Paramount Chief's involvement in active politics could hinder his mediating role in the ongoing parliamentary impasse, potentially damaging the credibility of the National House of Chiefs and impacting Ghana’s democratic process.
However, in responding to the issue, the Traditional Council led by Nana Bonya lll, the Atipimhene, had denied such allegations and described them as baseless.
He, therefore, asked Mr Nketiah to retract and apologise to the Council, saying, “failure to retract the false statement and apologise will have dire consequences for Asiedu Nketiah and the NDC in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Constituency.”
He continued: “We are giving Johnson Asiedu Nketiah 48 hours to come out and retract that false statement against Ogyahoho Yaw Gyebi ll, other than that we are going to make the Anhwiaso palace a hostile place for himself and his party.”
He, thus, called on political party leaders to engage in campaigns devoid of attacks and insults before, during and after the 2024 elections to ensure a peaceful co-existence.
