The abolition of the slave trade, Ghana's independence, and the end of Apartheid in South Africa were made possible, not because those responsible paid attention to the agonizing screams of the victims, but also, by the people's fight for freedom. Therefore, Ghanaians must demonstrate to the NPP government that they are human beings deserving of respect. Any regime that celebrates its pain and suffering with an E-Levy cake and a pointless statue should never be entertained.

If politics in Ghana hasn't been misunderstood, then, it has veered off course because many politicians believe that their role is to engage in corruption to enrich themselves, deny the populace greater amenities to live better lives, and hold onto power so they can continue to plunder the state. The NPP government has been in this situation because it is illogical to pledge to serve Ghanaians better than the previous administration, the NDC, only to let them suffer for eight unnecessary years.

The NPP, led by Akufo Addo and Mahamudu Bawumia, is the first democratic government in Ghanaian history to have wreaked havoc on the country. Despite labeling Mahama, the ex-leader, corrupt and incompetent, and pledged to combat corruption and illicit mining, the first four years saw no initiatives. Unaware that the NPP government was running its governance by the book "Agyapadie," they sought to seize control of Ghana's resources and the country's financial institutions.

Akufo Addo initiated this by designating his relative, Ken Ofori-Atta, as the Finance Minister, a position that is uncommon and difficult to find in any country because it encourages corruption. All of the unfinished projects from the previous government were left to rot despite the NPP government's failure to deliver projects for the people during its first four years in office. Even though the NPP failed, many asked for an additional four years because tribalism is still a major factor in Ghanaian politics.

Despite the thriving economy, low unemployment rate, reasonably priced consumer goods, and fuel, with a low national debt of GHC 120 billion, NPP politicians, including Akufo Addo and Bawumia, were able to convince Ghanaians that they are capable of serving them better, however, today, Ghanaians are facing unusual carnage. Widespread corruption and massive money laundering by the Akufo Addo-Bawumia administration greatly affected the country's businesses, investments, and economy.

Akufo Addo, who claimed that Mahama was taxing the populace excessively and pledged to lower taxes, ended up raising them instead. The E-Levy was one. The president said, "We are talking about taxing an industry where a lot of value is being created and we want to also bring that value into government coffers." However, Ghanaians realized that the NPP government's biggest failure to create jobs for the populace was one of the reasons they wanted to use the E-Levy to embezzle their hard-earned money.

Akufo Addo used an ambulance to evacuate a sick MP to boost the number of NPP politicians who could approve the E-Levy bill. At that point, Ghanaians taught the NPP a vengeful lesson, saying that “if the government has failed to provide them jobs, and is willing to steal their money, they will also remove their savings from the mobile system.” This act not only prevented the government from obtaining the funds it sought, but it also destroyed the low-income entrepreneurs' enterprises.

The NPP government's widespread corruption drastically reduced commercial activities in the ports, and other immoralities, including illegal mining, led to an unusual increase in tariffs that decreased imports and exports. Ghana's Embassy's Belgium bank accounts were closed after the Belgian government uncovered NPP's money laundering. It is extremely hurtful and disrespectful for a government to take pleasure in such atrocities and deem it as "good work."

With a high unemployment rate, a collapsing economy, businesses, and investments, and a staggering public debt of GHC 763 billion, Ghanaians are currently facing the most difficult life circumstances. Cecilia Dapaah, for example, stole more than $1 million and was free to spend her money as she pleased. As if that weren't enough without offering an apology or taking responsibility, Akufo Addo unveiled a statue of himself. As a Ghanaian, how wise are you to support such a government?

Being aware that the NPP or Bawumia don't respect or care about the people, Ghanaians should never entertain a government that celebrates the people's suffering with an E-Levy cake and a senseless statue. Statues are erected for those who deserve it but not for failures, and tyrants. So, be a responsible Ghanaian vote for a better administration on December 7, and vote out the NPP.
