Unconfirmed reports say about 40 persons are feared dead in a multiple vehicular accident at Okyeako Junction, a spot close to Winneba, on the Kasoa-Winneba road.

Commuters who called Joy FM to inform of the calamity said an articulator truck loaded with cocoa collided with a Cote d'Ivoire-bound STIF coach with Ivorian registration number which claimed the lives of about 35 passengers on the coach.

About five more passengers were reported to have died at the Winneba Government Hospital where about 33 victims were rushed to.

Several of the survivors are said to have sustained varrying degrees of injuries.

According the eyewitnesses, the articulator truck and the bus upon contact, plunged into a nearby river.

But while several other travelers on the road had stopped to help with rescue efforts, another advancing articulated truck also loaded with cocoa beans came running into a number of vehicles and their passengers.

Informers said about seven vehicles were involved but police rescuers are already moving the bodies to mortuaries.
