Atik Mohammed has criticized Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin for his adamant posture, which he argues is obstructing the legislative process.
Atik, the former General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), initially backed Bagbin’s move to assert parliamentary authority.
However, he now believes the Speaker’s actions are hindering productivity in the House.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show, Atik expressed frustration, saying, “What is going on is an attempt to stifle productivity in the House.
“If this continues, Parliament might not convene before the end of this term.”
Atik urged Speaker Bagbin to reconsider his stance, suggesting that the Speaker’s continued push to assert authority is becoming “counterproductive.”
He stated, “You've already proven that Parliament can assert its authority. Continuing down this path, however, will only hurt the Ghanaian people by denying them the representation they deserve.”
Calling for Bagbin to prioritize national interest, Atik advised, “The Speaker should move beyond petty considerations and focus on the bigger picture, which is serving the needs of Ghanaians.”
