Togbe Atsuga Sogah II, Divisional Chief of Sogakope in the Fievie Traditional Area, and Togbe Kosinyi Agyeman V, Divisional Chief of Mafi Adidome, together with other chiefs of the Tongu Traditional Area in Ghana's Volta Region, have enstooled Blessing Ejea as Mamaga Ama Tongu Nenyo I, the Queen Mother for Development of Tongu.
Togbe Atsuga Sogah II explained that the decision to enstool her stemmed from her impactful contributions to the community over recent years. "When someone is doing good for the community, it is essential to recognize and honor their efforts. In our tradition, we show appreciation by granting titles to those who work tirelessly for the community. After many consultations, we agreed that this noble woman deserved a special title for her dedication," he said. "Despite living abroad, she returns home often to support our community. We have installed her as Mamaga Ama Tongu Nenyo I, which signifies her role as the Development Queen Mother of our land."
Blessing Ejea, originally from Luvudo Kepze in the Bamba family, is a 45-year-old mother of three who moved to Germany at age 11. Known affectionately as "Mama Afrika" within the African community in Germany, she runs an African goods shop and serves as a consultant for Africans in her city, Geldern. Her dream is to establish a children’s home in Ghana, creating a safe haven and brighter future for disadvantaged children.
Over the years, she has initiated various community projects, including supporting orphans and widows, donating laptop computers, school supplies, and second-hand clothing from Germany, and covering hospital bills for those in need. Her contributions have been invaluable to vulnerable families in Tongu's villages.
With her new title as Mamaga Ama Tongu Nenyo I, Ejea's influence and support will extend to all communities in the Traditional Area. Togbe expressed optimism for more initiatives under her guidance, such as education, healthcare, clean water projects, and support for widows and the physically challenged.
However, Togbe highlighted several pressing challenges facing the region, noting that despite the presence of the Volta Lake, many communities lack access to clean drinking water and electricity. "Flooding has devastated many areas, yet there has been little government intervention. Mamaga Blessing Ejea has taken it upon herself to help our community in these difficult times," he said.
He offered a prayer for her success and urged community members to support her vision. "She has much to offer, but she needs our backing to make a greater impact. We should not be obstacles on her path but rather supporters, allowing her to realize the potential the ancestors have given her," he emphasized.
Togbe concluded with heartfelt appreciation for her dedication and encouraged all chiefs, leaders, and residents to rally behind her for the collective progress of the Tongu Traditional Area and the Volta Region.
