The 2024 Agrifest Exhibition came to a close after a successful five-day event, highlighting innovation, technology, and the pivotal role of youth leadership in advancing agriculture.
Organized by the Agrihouse Foundation and supported by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the National Agricultural Fair took place at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park, attracting over 190 exhibitors, including companies from the machinery and equipment sectors, livestock value chain players, agro-processors, and crop protection and nutrition companies.
This year’s exhibition, which coincided with the celebration of National Farmers' Day, was themed "Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security."
The fair showcased the rich agricultural heritage of Ghana while fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing among farmers, industry stakeholders, and development partners.
The event also saw an increase in participation from the fisheries and aquaculture sector, along with notable contributions from various development agencies and agricultural organizations.
In her closing remarks, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, Executive Director of Agrihouse Foundation, underscored the importance of youth involvement in transforming the agricultural sector. She stressed the significance of sustainable agriculture in tackling climate change and achieving food security.
"The youth have demonstrated that we can lead and innovate when given the opportunity. Agrifest 2024 shows that with the right support, we can make a meaningful impact in advancing Ghana's food system," she said.
Madam Akosa called for stronger public-private partnerships and emphasized the need for greater inclusion of young people in agricultural programs.
"We should take on the challenge to contribute to the growth of our food systems, ensuring youth-driven action for a better future," she added.
She also expressed her gratitude to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture for their continued support and acknowledged the contributions of exhibitors, partners, and stakeholders who helped make the event a success.
Christabel Darko, a representative from the Oti Region’s regional agro-department, also commended the organizers but suggested improvements for future events. She recommended that the event be held at the same location annually to build familiarity and attract more visitors.
The event concluded with the presentation of certificates of participation to exhibitors, marking the end of a successful and impactful Agrifest 2024.
