The Majority New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Parliament has cautioned the Minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the declaration of four seats vacant, suggesting that their actions will surely "come back to haunt" them in the future.
This warning follows continued actions by the Minority to occupy seats traditionally held by the Majority NPP, leading to repeated disruptions of parliamentary business.
The NDC Minority has consistently occupied the Majority seats, after the Speaker recently declared some seats vacant, altering the balance of power in the Parliament.
The NPP, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Member of Parliament for Effutu, boycotted parliament twice to avoid a direct confrontation with the NDC MPs over the seats.
Most recently, on November 7, the NDC occupied the Majority’s seats when Parliament reconvened, which led to another indefinite suspension due to a lack of quorum.
In an interview on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show, Afenyo-Markin expressed frustration over the stalemate and warned that the Minority's actions could have consequences for the NDC in the future.
"It will come back and haunt them," he stated firmly to host Kwami Sefa Kayi.
He also criticized the Minority for “undermining democracy” through actions he described as disruptive to parliamentary business, suggesting that “such tactics might ultimately harm the integrity and stability of Ghana's democratic processes.”
