President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed government's zero-tolerance stance on any efforts to destabilise Ghana’s democracy in the lead-up to the December 7 general elections.

In his final National Best Farmer Awards address, the president underscored his steadfast commitment to preserving peace and security during this pivotal electoral period.

During the event, President Akufo-Addo spoke emphatically about Ghana's longstanding democratic values, asserting that the integrity of the electoral process is a top priority.

He reminded the audience of the sacrifices and hard work that have gone into building a stable democracy, one that now stands as an example across Africa and beyond.

He acknowledged the efforts of previous leaders, civil society groups, and the Ghanaian people in fostering a peaceful political environment and emphasised that it is now the responsibility of all Ghanaians to protect this legacy.

President Akufo-Addo further called on citizens, political leaders, and supporters to prioritise unity and peace, urging that Ghana’s democratic principles must remain safeguarded against any form of threat.

“As we approach the 2024 general elections, let me make one thing absolutely clear again. I am unwavering in my commitment to free, fair and transparent elections. Ghana’s democracy is a treasure we have all fought to build and a legacy that must be protected.

“The sovereign will of the Ghanaian people will be upheld, and any attempts to disrupt the peace or undermine the democratic process will be met with the full weight of the law. Let there be no doubt, that our democracy will remain strong and the people’s choice will prevail.”
