Special Aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari has slammed Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, following his allegation that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) does not like Muslims.
Speaking to the media on day one of John Mahama’s tour of the Central Region, Joyce Bawah Mogtari described Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO as a loose talker who needs to grow up.
“Let me say something about the NPP’s running mate. I think he is a loose talker, I think he needs some coaching, and I think he needs to grow up a little bit more. I also think he needs to appreciate the sensibilities of our society,” she said.
The Special Aide to former President John Dramani Mahama further argued that various utterances from Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh in the past year show he is not fit to hold the office of Vice President.
“Napo has exhibited enormous arrogance and ignorance since his nomination as running mate. I shudder to think what else he is going to be saying next.
“It is obvious that he has nothing to offer the NPP. Let’s also try as much as possible to vet the people we nominate for high office.Since he was nominated, from the very first day, all the missteps largely tell us that he is not ready for high office” Joyce Bawah Mogtari said.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, stirred controversy while touring several constituencies in the Savanna Region on November 7.
He said it is an "abomination" (haram) for any Muslim to vote for the NDC, arguing that the opposition party has a history of sidelining Muslim leaders and disrespecting Islamic values.
“Haruna and Muntaka Mohammed, who removed them? John Mahama. They are Muslims oo, he said they are Muslims so they can’t lead NDC,” NAPO declared during his address.
NAPO also claimed that the NDC has a track record of demolishing mosques, pointing to the destruction of the "number one mosque" in Accra, which was reportedly replaced by the construction of Rawlings Park.
He cited another example in Koforidua, where he alleged a mosque was demolished and the area converted into a garbage dump.
“That is NDC for you. NDC, they don’t like Muslims,” NAPO concluded, urging Muslim communities to support the New Patriotic Party as a means of uplifting their livelihoods.
