Kotoka International Airport welcomed Africa’s first Airbus A350-1000, operated by Ethiopian Airlines, on Friday, November 8.
The arrival, celebrated with a traditional water salute, highlights Ethiopian Airlines' ongoing commitment to the Ghanaian market.
The aircraft, arriving from Addis Ababa, touched down at 11:45 a.m. local time with 395 passengers on board, parking at C7 in Terminal 3.
Ethiopian Airlines now operates 155 aircraft, including 21 A350-900s, with an additional 72 aircraft on order, including Boeing’s latest B777X model.
Speaking with AviationGhana, Captain Firomssa Chala Gossa, who piloted the A350-1000’s inaugural flight to Accra, noted the advantages of the new model: “The A350-1000 is fuel-efficient and exceptionally quiet. Africa is at the heart of Ethiopian Airlines’ operations, and Accra is one of our key destinations. That’s why we brought the A350-1000 here.”
Ethiopian Airlines is currently the only African carrier operating the A350-1000, which seats 46 passengers in business class and 395 in economy. This model is also the first to feature Thales’ AVANT Up inflight entertainment system and the HBC+ connectivity system, offering travelers enhanced amenities, spacious seating, larger screens, and a unique landscape camera. Business class seats come with direct aisle access for added convenience.
With its carbon-fiber fuselage and advanced aerodynamics, the A350-1000 is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, delivering a quieter and smoother long-haul experience. This launch represents a significant milestone for Ethiopian Airlines and sets a new standard in African aviation, aligning with the airline’s Vision 2035 plan to expand and enhance its global network.
