Ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor has called on Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin to show strong leadership amid the ongoing turmoil in Parliament.
Expressing disappointment over the “embarrassing” situation, Kufuor cautioned that this unresolved impasse could tarnish Bagbin’s otherwise distinguished career and legacy.
The standoff was triggered by Speaker Bagbin’s earlier decision to declare four parliamentary seats vacant, a ruling that, if maintained, could shift parliamentary majority status to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Kufuor emphasised the Speaker’s critical role in fostering stability and decorum, urging Bagbin to act promptly to resolve the impasse.
He warned that failing to restore order in Parliament could not only hinder parliamentary work but also risk damaging Bagbin’s reputation and contributions to Ghana’s governance.
“I urge the Speaker of Parliament to demonstrate strong leadership. What’s happening in Parliament is embarrassing and could damage his illustrious record,” Kufuor stated.
