Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has alleged that Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin is working with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to undermine the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in a bid to secure another term as Speaker should the NDC gain majority control.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo program, Afenyo-Markin claimed that Bagbin’s actions, which he described as disruptive, are strategically aimed at weakening the government and destabilizing parliamentary business.
“The Speaker is a member of the NDC and he is eyeing another term if the NDC gains majority. Everything he is doing is a coordinated plan with the NDC,” Afenyo-Markin asserted.
He alleges that the NDC and Speaker Alban Bagbin are doing everything to provoke NPP MPs into reacting and turn around to blame the ruling party as disorderly and unfit to govern.
"It is the same old playbook. They planned that when they came into the chamber, he would adjourn sine die. Whether the reason or excuse, they have done it.
“They planned to declare some seats vacant, then quickly they will rush to our side and when we confront them, they will say there is chaos in Ghana and all. It is exactly what they are doing,” he asserted.
