The Ejura Traditional Council celebrated its annual Yam Festival with a call for peaceful elections, urging Ghanaians—especially Ejura residents—to support stability throughout the December polls.

Ejurahene Barimah Osei Hwedie II emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts among stakeholders to ensure a peaceful election period.

At the festival on Friday, November 8, 2024, he highlighted security advancements in the area, including the establishment of a new Divisional Police Headquarters and Military Barracks. "The increased police presence has brought peace," he remarked, encouraging residents to remain law-abiding.

Queen Mother Nana Akua Tiwaa II echoed his call for peace, underscoring the Traditional Council's commitment to progress through unity. She noted, "Ejura's growth requires a collective effort from all stakeholders."

The festival also served as a platform for fostering peace and unity in the community ahead of the elections.

A Somber Celebration
This year’s Sekyerene Festival took on a somber tone as the Traditional Council prepared to honor the memory of their late Ex-Queen Mother, Nana Akosua Akyamaa. Unlike previous celebrations marked by lively music, dance, and art, this year's festivities were subdued, with only essential rituals observed out of respect for their departed leader.

Ejurahene Barimah Osei Hwedie II explained that the council chose to forgo much of the celebration to honor Nana Akosua Akyamaa's legacy, reflecting the deep respect the community holds for her.

About the Sekyerene Festival
The Ejura Yam Festival, also known as the Sekyerene Festival, is an annual celebration that ushers in the yam harvest season. Traditionally a week-long event filled with cultural activities, it unites the Ejura community, fostering communal spirit and service. Chiefs also use the occasion to engage with the people, discuss development plans, and encourage community growth.

Under the leadership of Ejurahene Barimah Osei Hwedie II, the Sekyerene Festival has spurred significant growth and development, strengthening Ejura's appeal as a place to live and work. Past festivals have focused on themes like "Creating a Secured Environment for the Economic Development of Ejura," underscoring the community’s dedication to progress and shared prosperity.
