The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has criticised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over the recent unveiling of a statue in his honour.
According to Mahama, the act reflects a lack of humility on the part of the President.
Speaking at a campaign rally, John Dramani Mahama argued that President Akufo-Addo should allow others to praise him.
“The end of try me and see is trials. It is the difficulty we are facing today and President Akufo-Addo does not care. That is why just recently he has unveiled a statue in Takoradi.
“As President, you should be humble enough for others to praise you. You don’t erect and unveil your own statue,” John Dramani Mahama said.
The statue in question was unveiled by President Akufo-Addo at the entrance of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi, as part of his one-day "thank you" tour of the Western Region.
According to the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, the statue is meant to honour Akufo-Addo’s significant contributions to the region, including the renovation of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, the construction of a modern three-tier Sinohydro interchange, and the redevelopment of the Takoradi Market Circle.
