The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has cautioned Ghanaians against electing Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as President in the upcoming elections.

According to Asiedu Nketia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer will be "remote-controlled" by President Akufo-Addo if he is elevated to the highest office in the country.

“Bawumia will be remote-controlled by President Akufo-Addo if you vote him as president,” Asiedu Nketia stated.

Addressing NDC supporters at Esereso-Tenpomom in the Atwima-Mponua Constituency, he alleged that Dr. Bawumia lacks the independence to govern effectively. He indicated that Dr. Bawumia would cover up NPP dubious deals and protect Akufo-Addo’s appointees from prosecution.

Asiedu Nketia referenced the controversial "Agyapadee" document, which he claimed outlines plans for Akufo-Addo to exert influence over the next administration.

He alleged that this document is part of a broader strategy for Akufo-Addo to maintain control when out of power, using Bawumia as a mere figurehead.

The NDC Chairman further alleged that Dr. Bawumia and his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, are already acting to the dictates of Akufo-Addo. He suggested that this demonstrates a lack of autonomy and hints at what Ghanaians can expect if Dr. Bawumia is elected—continuity of Akufo-Addo’s policies and influence.

He described the Ashanti Region as a symbolic "election shrine" for the NPP, where, he claims, the party frequently turns to secure votes during election years. Despite this, Asiedu Nketia argued, the region has not witnessed significant development under the NPP’s rule over the past eight years.

He, therefore, urged the electorate in the Ashanti Region to support the NDC’s presidential candidate and parliamentary candidates, emphasizing the need for a change in leadership to transform the region’s fortunes.
